In North Carolina, there is a need for afterschool programs for youth on the Autism Spectrum so parents can feel relief knowing their child is being cared for by highly trained staff. Furthermore, it gives children on the spectrum the opportunity to build relationships, develop skills and have fun. Unfortunately, according to the Autism Society of North Carolina (2010), “Very few afterschool programs will accept children on the Autism spectrum; some programs have deliberately lied to parents fearing the additional liability, training, and cost of staffing.                                                     Budget Narrative Staff Salary and wages                                                               Total: $283,600  Program Director will spend 100% of the time overseeing the daily operations of the program; Hiring and training new employees and managing the staff members. The program will be in operation for 10 months; the Individual salary will be $50,000 a year.  Assistant Director will spend 100% of time assisting the program director with overseeing the daily operations of the program. The assistant director’s annual salary is $38,000.  Speech Therapists (2)  will provide services to youth 60% of the time, 3 days a week/9 hours a week on a 10-month contract. $25 hr/annual salary is $9,000 x 2    Occupational Therapists (2)  will provide services to youth 60% of the time, 3 days a week/9 hours a week on a 10-month contract. $30 hr/Annual wages is $10,800 x 2    ABA Therapists (3)  will provide services to youth 95% of the time, 5 days a week, 3.5 hours a day totaling 17.5 hours a week. $20 an hour pay/annual salary is $14,000 x 3.    Youth Counselors (8) will work 100% of the time, 5 days a week/20 hours a week on a 10-month contract. The wages will be $17 an hour. $13,600 x 8 annual wages per counselor  A Janitor will be needed 5 days a week for 2 hours a day to ensure the site is cleaned and sanitized daily.
